Sew fun....

Jeff talked me into going to a sewing circle last night. There are about four or five ladies that get together once a month and work on sewing projects. The hostess is an expert sewer and is there to help us inexperienced ladies with their projects. I thought I'd go and just learn how to use the machine and just practice different stuff on scraps but the ladies helped me make a pair of pajama pants for Andrew. I was so excited to be able to have the help to actually make something and it wasn't bad for a beginner. Especially if you don't look too close at some of the imperfections :}

The memories I have of sewing machines aren't good ones. I can remember my Mom hated her machine. It was huge and difficult to use. Every time she got the thing out you could tell how much she disliked it. I think that is probably the main reason that I never got into it before. It has been an interest and something I've thought as a mother I should know how to do but never took any time to learn. Since I got the chance to go last night I'm already thinking of projects that I'd like to do. I've also spent some time on the internet looking at projects people work on. I've got my eye on a few clothes projects for Megan. We'll see if I can pull them off as we go along.

Next month the hostess is going to teach us a mini class on Christmas stockings. I'm excited to be able to make my children their very own personalized stockings from Mom. It should be fun. I'm looking forward to the outing. It was nice to get away for a bit and do something for me for a change.

**Just a side note I wanted to post a picture of Andrew wearing the pants so I could see how they fit but I can't get the boy to put them on for the life of me. He runs away and refuses to try them on. I guess I've learned a hard lesson not to make clothes for him. Megan can't wait till she gets something hand made by mom.

Our little guy

Even though he is a little guy of few words he sure is cute. He spent some time in the kitchen helping his Dad make carmel cornbread. Every time Jeff gave him the chance he was ready to stir and mix just about anything. He did get in the way a few times but it was fun to see the boys in the kitchen working together. Jeff had a chili potluck at work on friday and took in white chili with a spin and what he calls his "award winning carmel cornbread."
He sure did clean up well too. We tried out a tie for the first time this Sunday for church. It last for about a half hour and then it had to come off. It was a clip on tie and started to bug him. It still looked cute and definitely picture worthy.

Fair Play

It is that time of year again when the fair is back in town. We went for our Monday family night and had a blast. They loved the rides and Andrew couldn't wait to get to the next ride. He wasn't the best at waiting in line but all in all we really didn't have any major meltdowns.


We let the kids choose seven rides each and they loved getting to pick. I think they wanted to go on every single one but didn't mind that they were limited. Megan got free face painting which she picked a horse for her arm. Andrew didn't want to wait in the five minute line so he didn't get one.

We enjoyed an elephant ear and an ice cold slurpie. The smell of fair food was all around and tempting but not worth it. I think it was much more fun to walk around and see the sights and let the kids have some fun. They even got to milk a fake cow. They had it all set up with water and utters. Andrew even enjoyed getting to chance to milk a cow.

It was a fine evening for a little family and MarGene. Megan let me know this morning that she dreamed about the fair last night and had a great time. It is always nice to plan something fun for the family and have your kids enjoy it so much.

I'm glad we got the chance to go and have some fun. It was all worth it.

My Big Preschooler

Andrew's first day of his second year of preschool has finally arrived. Last week Megan started school and Andrew has been a bit lost without her. Now today it was his turn to ride the big yellow school bus. While we waiting he wasn't too interested in looking for the bus and found the rock wall much more interesting. Below you'll see a picture of his handy climbing skills. Half the time he wanted to climb and the other he wanted to find rocks to throw. When the bus approached he had to come off the wall and lets just say he wasn't very thrilled with me. Once the bus doors opened and he got to walk on it was a totally different story. He was getting into the whole bus ride to school. Let's hope he has a good day. It is very strange having such an empty house right now but I've got Cardinale work to do so I'm sure the time will fly by.

Embarrassing Mom!!

Well Megan survived her first day at school and loved it. My little one is growing up so fast she doesn't need me anymore.

I thought I'd be a cute mom and put a little note in her lunch box. I wrote on her napkin a little something about having a good day and that I loved her. When she got home from school she had to tell me to never do that again. She said it was so embarrassing and that the other kids laughed at her. This is my 6 year old growing up for sure. Who would have thought that a note from mom in 1st grade would have been embarrassing?? I didn't send one today but I really wanted to. Maybe I'll try again down the road when the newness of going back to school has worn off some.

Firsts

Today my first born is having her first day of first grade. It is truly a day of firsts for us.

Megan was so excited she was ready to go about 30 minutes before we needed to leave

the house. She is so ready to have something special all her own.

I have to admit unlike some moms I was totally ready for her to go back to school. I thought she would enjoy herself alot more and I wouldn't have to constantly break up fights between her and Andrew. I can tell you that as reality has set in I have felt a flurry of feelings. Watching her get on the bus made me feel so sad and I started to tear up. My little girl is growing up. She got on that bus and didn't even look back. She was all set and waved goodbye from her seat. I have spent the morning with Andrew feeling like I'm missing a part of me. Things around here feel empty and I miss my little helper alot. At around 9am I realized I needed to kick myself into gear and not feel sorry for myself today. After all I do still have Andrew around till he starts preschool for half days on Monday. Then I think I'll really be a mess!!

I miss my little girl and am amazed how fast they grow up!!

Zoo Labors

Happy Labor Day!!!


We decided to have a fun day out and took the kids to the zoo.
We went with another family and had an interesting time.
We only had a few meltdowns but other than that I think the kids
enjoyed a last big adventure before school starts for them.

Andrew loved the animals and we often had to struggle to keep
him on our side of the fences. If he could of gotten closer I think
we would have avoided most of the tantrums.

Megan loved having a friend to pal around with. It made the
experience whole lot more fun for her.

All in all we had a good time and it was nice to get out with the kids.
We all survived!!
